    Soviet Order Box or Envelope?

One never sees any box or envelope that a Soviet Order might have orignaly come in, particularly for the World War II era. How were medals like the Order of the Red Banner, Order of Red Star, Partrotic War, packaged when sent from the mints to the military? Were they individually wrapped in tissue, envelopes, etc.?

It really depended on the award; the Orders usually came in a rather flimsy box and medals usually came in an envelope. The accepted reason for this is that Soviet awards were meant to be worn, not kept squirreled away in a box. Once in awhile you can find one of these boxes, but not often.

When I bought in Quantity from the Army, they came wrapped in paper in Boxes of 50 or 100. Some came in a folded cardboard box of very low quality, so only for Storage and not as a presentation case.
Presentation Cases I only know fro m Awards to Foreigners for Higher Awards.
I had some Medals Awarded to Germans, but these came only loose with the Docs. They also had the German Suspension and not the russian, but I thnik this was made privately.

I have a few of the red cardboard boxes i which Orders were presented.
One of them has the recipient's name on a typed label glued to the bottom of the box.
I'll take some photos and post them.
