    Soviet Collar tabs, two colors?

I was looking at a pair of Soviet Motorized Rifles Collar tabs and I would like to know why they come in Red and Field Green? You would think that one set would be for parade and dress and the other for field? But I seem photos of Soviet Soldiers wearing Motorized Rifles Collar Tabs being worn out in the field? Would anyone know why that is? Could someone tell me what the red is for and what the green is for?

    Soviet motorized rifles

    Hi Finnishlion178,

When I collected Soviet items I remember reading from a book, that it was ordered to replace red tabs by green (subdued) in field dress when at field exercise. Replacing tabs to another was nevertheless seldom done.

Yes, the red is for everyday and parade wear, the subdued green almost khaki was for field wear.

A bright, deep green was worn by border guards.

The subdued collar tabs and should boards are on the M69 soldiers uniform - over that you tack the coloured branch of service insignia for peace time.

In war, you cut off the coloured insignia quickly and move to the fight!

You don't often see exercise photos of them actually having removed the full colour insignia - too much effort or looked nicer for the photos
