    Soviet Awards

I am going to expand my extensive militaria collection by branching out into Soviet medals/orders. Where do I start? What are some good on line dealers? Thanks

A good place you can start related to Soviet medals would be Igor Moiseyev at Collect Russia. Here is his website...http://collectrussia.com/
Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group

      I'll second that.
Igor knows more about Soviet Orders and Medals than anyone, collector or dealer, that I know. And in my opinion he is as honest and honorable as they come.

Definitely a good place to start - the one thing you can be sure of is that nothing you buy there will be fake. He is as straight as they come.

Once you understand your subject better, range further.

Just my two roubles of advice...

And don't forget a good reference book. I think McDaniel and Schmitt is still a golden standard:

Personally I find him outrageously expensive. More so now that many of the old "decent priced" dealers have left the scene.

I've purchased quite a few pieces from him, and I find him the best there is when it comes to Soviet militaria.
Some say he's expensive, but you get what you pay for. To me, he's the source to go to.

Paul, when did you buy the items? I assume several years ago? His prices have gone insane over the last two years.

I'll be the first to admit he has some nice stuff, but c'mon ....

Take a serious look at the prices of even the standard items. If anyone starting out is paying those prices, they need to shake their heads to see what falls out.

                  It was 2004-2005.
