Why not promote yourself to starshina and get some awards!
I'll tell the political officer you've been an exemplary young communist.
    Thanks,

Komsomol badge you could wear without permission grandfathers. You just had to wear it, if you were a member of the Komsomol. "Ghosts" were Komsomol badge with a pin back.

First, the signals ensemble, complete with collar liner:

        And a side view:

I hope I have done well enough not to require sending out the duty car.

I also got my hands on a bigger, and hence ill fitting, Subdued tunic which I stuck some subdued motorized rifles collar devices on. I didn't, however get around to sewing a liner in as I don't intend to wear it much:

I do have a question about this tunic. The upper most button is a simple small plastic one, much like the design of an NVA summer tunic. It is also missing a collar hook. Does this mean that it is intended to be worn with the collar open?

        Close ups of this:

And so my Soviet collection grows.
I heard today about a relatively scarsely seen Kazakhstan-issued open collar M69 field uniform. I wasn't given much description or shown images but from the look of it, that could be what your uniform is, given the lack of collar hook and the different top button. I'd assume it was issued in all tropical climates, but would probably have given way to the more modernised Afghanka uniform in the 80s, possibly explaining why it is so rare.
EDIT : friend confirmed it is the same uniform for desert regions.

There is a tropical uniform used in southern military districts within the Dress Regulations Comrade, worn with long trousers buttoned at the ankle with ankle boots.

            KevinH:

A few questions about your signals tunic. What is the material? Heavy cotton?
Would it be different material for summer and winter?

Is the field tunic the same except for green buttons? Or are there other differences?
