    cccp watch

    i have an old watch i picked up in Berlin probably 88-89 i know it could still possibly be a fake but i thought it was cool at the time,the guy who sold it to me said it was an Army watch( really doesnt look like something youd wear in the army)The funny thing about it is that it has a big CCCP on it but on the bottom it says "made in the USSR"

    Not so sure about 'Made in the USSR', I've seen every thing from standard issue to a Generals issue watch (uuummm???) for sale lately.

    They seem to be rather common, this one like mine can be picked up from Silvermans at half the cost I paid for it in the Czech Rep.

        I got mine awhile ago and it looks similar to yours but yours looks a little more "heavy" than mine also the back of mine just has the maker mark craba or something like that. When i get home tnight i ll post a pic of it.

          Out of interest Eric I bought this to, a commemorative pocket watch for the Guards, it's got 1941-1945 on the back and some writing.........modern of course, along with hip flask's, lighters etc There were many items like this to buy in Czech and again I see them here in the UK for 30 pounds or so.

          The lights gone here now (sorry about the dark pic) but I thought it was a nice looking thing !

            Sounds like one of the "Russian Watches" churned out by the thousands in the late 80's through the fall of the USSR to keep the Russian watch industry afloat. I remember, if you were lucky, you could pick them up for $5 each in Moscow, though they normally ran about $10 each in the early 90's. Quality varied about as much as the watch designs... Everything from watches that literally died the next day to watches that I know are still being worn to this day, 10+ years after buying them! In the mid to late 90's, they started coming out with some rather nice quality watches, and recently, I've seen some really quality watches coming from Poljot and other factories.

            The original watches aren't worth much, but they're fun to own/wear and if someone was so inclined, they could collect each different style and have a nice looking (and relatively inexpensive) collection!

              Watches were highly regarded in the Soviet Union and they were awarded to soldiers for various reasons. As you say the designs varied and I think that Vostok is cashing in on this today. They are even doing KGB watches...!

                That's the maker, yes and three different face colours too. They're the maker I saw being sold in Washington, along with General, Field Marshal types of all the services pretty gold or silver looking things and cheap $33.00 thats 20 pounds give or take.

                The're not really my cup of tea, but to buy a cheapo G10 98 (CWC) British army issue watch you're paying nearly 100 pounds ! And I think my old RQ told me if I was to lose mine I'd be billed 17 pounds for it. Needless to say it resides in one of my wifes dressing table draws now.

                  iv had a few of those watchs and there a pile of pooh!! they look sweet but anything more then a miild bang and it knackers the watch!! ha ha over here the guy who mainly sells them charges 65 to 85 euros on them and he get it to!!!

                    Have to agree with you there mate. Mine conked out about three months after I bought it. It was an automatic job that didn't need winding. Only thing was the bloke who sold it to me didn't tell me it didn't need winding because the bloody thing wouldn't work for long!!!
