I have been looking around the web and in some of my books for awhile now, cause these photos are Driving me insane. And i am 99.9% sure that these photos are of Modern day Russia. The men in the berets, I am sure they are Russian, cause of the style of the berets, but not to sure if they were Communist Russian, or just Russian, and then i looked up the tank in one of my books, and I believe that is a T-90 tank, and this tank started being tested in 1990, and was finally pushed into service in 1994, which is 3yr after the Soviet union fell, so i take back my guess of The Ukraine, and I say it is modern day Russia.

I agree. If it is not Russians, then I have never served my two years in the Soviet Army.
These guys are equipped with 100% Soviet staff. I recognize even alluminum piece added to AK-74 barrel (used for shooting dummy bullets). The red flag (still with sickle and hammer) that they hold is, most likely, their military unit's Flag, while the three-color flag is of modern Russia. Uniform is a bit different than it was 15 years ago, but the red flag is still on berets, and the symbol of Soviet military force, the red star, is still on planes.

The solution lies in part in considering which of the former Soviet republics would continue to unabashedly use Soviet symbols.

If today, instead of Russia there still was the Soviet Union, it could easily mean the same thing .

Beloruss..ahhh wouldn't have got that one.

One thing to bear mind though is that during the Soviet era, Bulgarian uniforms were very similar to older Soviet style uniforms. For example in the 1980s, Bulgarian officers uniforms were very similar to that of 1960s Soviet officers. Paratrooper uniforms were almost identical.
