I always thought the SSh39 had the drawstring style liner and not the pads of the 40...

How are the pads held in?

As Kozlov says three pad is the SSh40 but I can only see three rivets high up on the shell on the outside. Which would normally say SSh39 to me (or Czech M53! )

I can't get the pictures to come up on your helmet for some reason. I've seen Ssh 39's with the Ssh 40 pads in place. It leaves a wide open space in the front forehead area of the helmet, but it was done.

Good purchase. Helmets as this yet meet in Russia, but already all rarer. Leather pads, like this, on Ssh-40 set not long - in the first war years of USSR (1940-41). For its installation in Ssh-39 used steel plates - adapters in the form inverted T.
For full confidence it is necessary to look at a factory brand - number. On a form numbers in a brand it is possible to distinguish cech from russian and approximately define the year of issue.
