It's an Order of the Red Banner of Labour- one of, if not the, most beautiful of Soviet Orders. Yours is a Type 6, Variation 2 and, by the serial number, is one of the last issued (seven digits beginning with 12). It's absolutely genuine and looks to be in immaculate condition. The going rate here in the States for this particular Order in a 6/2 is around $95 US, so I believe the price you paid is about right.

The Order is completely silver with gold plating (no, the hammer and sickle are not gold- some seem to think it is) and hot enamel.

I'd say it's good as well, and like Greg observes it's a very beautiful piece.
IMO yours was a tad overpriced, but not much and even then pricing can be subjective.
          So enjoy it!

              cheers all,

i bet i could of gotten a better deal on the e-stand but i got abit sick of waiting for one to pop up & i dont want to bother with e-bay.

but i got abit concerned when on another website it stated 122xxxx were only ever awarded (and mine is 1233967)

I think the highest observed serial number is just less than 1.26 million so you are OK with that.
Often more awards were made than actually awarded so there is occaisonally controversy between awardings and high numbers.
                Thanks,
