    Order of the Yugoslav Flag - 5cl.

    Hello, I thought I would share my recent acquisition. It is The Order of the Yugoslav Flag - 5cl. The Order was instituted on 26 Nov 1947, by Marshal Josip Tito, and came in 5 classes. It was awarded for outstanding contributions to the development and strengthening of peaceful co-operation and friendly relations between the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia and other nations...which is Communist speak for saying "social merit". The order is a 2 piece construction and is made of silver. It is numbered 499; the 5th class version was awarded 955 times until Dec 1989. The colors of the ribbon are that of the national colors of the Yugoslav Republic. The Order of the Yugoslav Flag was ranked number 10 in the Yugoslavia order of precedence, and came after the Order of the Yugoslav Star, and before the Order of the Partizan Star.

      The Order is heavy weighing in at 52 grms (1.83 oz). It is bulky, detailed, and has a high relief.

        John, I'm glad you got this very nice order. Thanks for your kind words
        I'd like to add to this detailed presentation that numbers on Yugoslav orders were a bit messy. It is completely normal to find an order with serial no. much higher than the number of actually awarded pieces. Also, such pieces (with "too high" number) can be also awarded ones, and vice versa, there are orders with low s/n that were never awarded. But generally, lower numbers are more interesting.

            How's the weather in VA? It is as hot as Texas down here 103F (39C) .

              Hey John - Thanks for the info. This year here in VA the daily heat has hardly made it over 90F. It is so hot here...
