Did the AKSU-74 ever make its way to guerrilla movements in africa?

Thanks guys,so far I have found no pictures ethier so at this point would have to suppose that as was stated this weapon did not make ilt there.

Did you even see any 5.45mm weapons down there? Little point in introducing yet another supply problem to a guerilla war is there?

Furthermore, the AK-74 series of weapons were "state of the art" Soviet equipment during most of the Bush Wars of the 70's and 80's. Most of the equipment sent to Africa or any other client nation were items that were obsolete. The Soviets were generous with their aid, but didn't want to send state of the art equipment that could be captured by the South Africans or whomever and have it turned over to the US for examination.

Kozlov also makes a good point about resupply issues. Since the AK-47 and the AKM fired a 7.62x39 cartridge and the AK-74 series fired a 5.45, resupply in the bush would be a nightmare. Two different calibers completely.

Yes they did. I don't think they actually got a look at it until the early 80's. Still, the Soviets were fighting the Afghans during the 1980's and needed to equip their own troops. Like I said, the aid that was given abroad was obsolete equipment for the most part. The best equipment was kept for their own troops.
