Thought I'd share some of my Romanian collection, complete with documents (hey, Ralph!). First up is an Order of Labour III (Ordinul Muncii III), complete with case, ribbon bar and certificate. Of note: this is an RPR (pre-'65) complete set!

Hello Greg - Thanks for the thread...
Are these medals with documents hard to acquire? And can you educate me with the dates of the medals...please...thanks.Somebody, after all, had to make a start. Sure Ralph... before I get to the medals, it's important to know that the Romanian Peoples' Republic, established in 1947, became the Romanian Socialist Republic in 1965. Any medals established before 1965, and were awarded after 1965, will reflect this change. On to the medals...
The Order of Labour was established in 1948. This particular award was given in 1957. You'll note the "RPR" on the banner of the order itself; had it been given after 1965, it would have read "RSR". Note that the Brevet of award states that it is given on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the Republic (which was 1947).
The Medal for Liberation from the Fascist Yoke was established in 1949, and the award pictured was given in 1949.
The 50th Anniversary of the Romanian Communist Party Medal was established in 1971 and awarded that year.
In 1989, Romania had a very violent revolution that overthrew the Ceausescu regime. Not only did this result in him and his wife being summarily executed, but many were shot in the streets, burning, looting- all the things that go on during a revolution. A great deal of this stuff was destroyed. Some was hidden, and did not see the light of day until some one died and the kids sifted through boxes in the attic, so to speak. Generally, some medals are easy to find and some are not so easy to find- the later anniversary awards seem the easiest; the Securitat orders and medals seem to be the most difficult. Documents are difficult to find, period. Also, the items with RPR tend to be less plentiful than the later RSR items- this includes badges/pins as well.Last edited by Greg Collins; 03-26-2009, 05:34 PM.
