    Romanian Securitat Medals

Here's a group you don't see every day. I'm not going to call these medals rare (someone with more expertise than I will have to do that); I will say that they are rarely seen. The medal on the right, which is the most common of the trio, is the Medal for Distinguished Services in Defense of the Social Order and the Country (Medalia "Pentru servicii deosebite aduse în apãrarea orânduirii sociale ºi de stat") issued from 1968. The other two are the Medal for Service to Socialist Country (Medalia "În serviciul patriei socialiste") - Gold (1st Class) and Silver (2nd Class) issued from 1963. The case is cardboard without any feux covering, and is for the 1st Class Medal of Service...

Hey Greg - Please forgive my lack of knowledge on these medals, but are they all military medals or also civilian?
Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group

        Hey Ralph,

From what I can gather at this point, they are military.

The award most associated with the Securitat is the Order for Distinguished Services in the Defense of the Social Order and the Country (Ordinul Pentru Servicii Deosebite Aduse în Apãrarea Orânduirii Sociale şi de Stat), 1968-1989. Here's a 3rd Class example (bronze); 2nd is silver, 1st is gold. The medals in the previous posts was an effort to show some of the other, lesser awards given to the Securitat members. All Securitat orders and medals are rare and, to tell the truth, as Romania had a violent revolution in '89, and much of the Communist period awards and documents were destroyed, it's a wonder I'm holding these in my hands now. I'll be posting some of the other items in my collection in the near future (and yes, Ralph, I even have some documents this time .
