Order of the Red Banner"Help Needed"

Hi, I have this very nice Type 4 "Oval" Order of the Red Banner in my collection but there is something that I just can't figure out about it? The serial number on this Order is 7578 and going by the info in the book "The Comprehensive guide to Soviet Orders and Medals by Paul McDaniel. This type 4 Order should start at around 349,000 in the serial number range? Can anyone please advise me as to why my order has such a low serial number on it?

Very possibly this is a legitimate replacement for an earlier screw back badge. Such replacement Red Banners are not all that uncommon.

Hi, I was thinking along those same lines myself Wild Card! Is there anyone else that can please give an opinion on this, and what does this do for this Order value wise if it is a legitimate replacement piece?

That is a good question. I would venture no further than to say that it is probably worth less than the piece that it replaces and more than an “average” type 4 oval - whatever that is. Unfortunately, it seems that these days virtually every Red Banner is a special type or sub type that commands a special place and price to such a degree that I have given up trying to keep them all straight.

Hi, thanks for the reply again WC! The prices on these Soviet Orders really are getting hard to put a finger on these days! And as you said with special types and sub types etc etc!!! Is there no up to date price guides out there with the likes of TR militaria, British Militaria etc? I will start a thread soon regarding the different types, ie sub types, special types, legit replacement pieces etc and what this does to the value with not just the ORB, but with all the Soviet orders, just to find out what other collectors think about this subject?

Prices for the Soviet Orders fall rapidly, at least 2 times.

The replacement medals I have always seen say replacement or copy right on the back of the medal/order. I am not sure if that is consistent across all Soviet orders but on the several I have seen that is indicated. Thanks Clete
