    Postwar Ssh40 for Motorised Rifles?

Can anyone tell me more about these helmets? I remember reading they were some modified type of Ssh40 for Motorised Rifles troops used in late 1950s-1960s. The chinstrap is similar to East German but not identical and appears to have been added after production.

I pulled it out to sell recently and was curious about this odd variation. Bought it from dealer in St. Petersburg.

Dated 1948, produced at factory in Leningrad (forget name):

Not really anything I can add to what you have already said. A post war improved strap.

    Cheers, Ade.

Any photos of them in use. I usually notice canvas straps in photos.

      regards

Hi Klaus, I do have a couple of pics but they are in the Clawson book on Russian helmets.

        Cheers, Ade.

            Thanks!

That is what I was looking for. Appears they continued to be issued into at least 1970s (if not later), since all soldiers wear M69 uniform.

            regards
            Klaus

Remember there was also a SSh60 with that type of chinstrap too!
