    Soviet helmet, rare WW2 original..???

    Hi,

This is said to be rare "first" type m/39 helmet with original first type liner. Chin strap is attached to the liner, not to shell. Said to be vet bring back, almost unused shape apart from the fact that vet's son tried to burn the red star & tools when he was a kid...

These are all pics available and I wonder if someone could help me with this, is it worth of buying or just some post war modified... and if ok, what's current value for these? Tried to find from the net but no luck, at least with this kind of liner...

    Thanks!

    Miikka

It is exactly what you describe and it is very nice too I would be very happy to add it to my collection.

Value will be fairly high. $600 plus as a rough guide.

    Cheers, Ade.

        Hello Miika,

I'm by far an expert on this, but here are my thoughts. Despite the lousy pictures it looks promising: A nice, textbook, hardly used SsH 39 in a rare configuration.
On the other hand I'm a little sceptic as it all looks too brand new and textbook, supposedly damaged by the vet's son.
If a kid has played with it in it's past it would also leave marks on the shell and liner, I assume. If some kid hated the symbol he would use a tool to do some serious damage. If he would test if it would burn he would have concentrated on one spot until it would burn black.
IMO these burn marks are too 'subtle' for a kid. They could as well be an attempt to age the star.

Better pictures are needed to take away my doubts,
        Marcel

I'd value the other postings much higher than mine.
            Guess I'm still learning.

            Very nice helmet

              Thank you all!

I've seen that lid "live" some time ago (but did not have cam with me at that time) and it really looks like it's original. But since I don't know sh1te about Soviet stuff I was not sure if it's good from 1939 or -59.... Seems that the first owner of this helmet did not have lot of time to use it...

But thanks to you all, now I know what I'm after .

I collect mainly Finnish stuff but due to "relationships" between Finnish & Russians in 1939-44 it's nice to get something from the other side of the frontline too .

I already have our late neighbours bring back lid, the model that was used before this one. Unfortunately it's w/o liner but I've been told liners were removed in Winter war in order to fit winter headgear underneath. Our neighbour has also written inside where & when he got it. It's in perfect shape (apart from missing liner).

                        fantastic lid

i'm always surprised at the relatively small prices these Soviet lids fetch. after all, they are much rarer than any German camo or even SS lids.
                        must be the nazi stigma

Actually, its the reverse thats true - it is surprising how much people seem to pay for fascist junk.
