KGB badge

This is a "fantasy" piece that is more of a decorative lapel pin. If I'm not mistaken, this has a military clutch type fastener.
A genuine "KGB Badge" (there were several- none of which looked quite like this) would be (very general):
- larger
- made of bronze, tombac or silver
- have depth through both the striking and multi-piece construction
- have exquisite detail, jeweler quality hot enamel and gold plating
- have a "mirror" reverse and screw back
- have a mint mark and, if an award, a serial number
Oh yeah, the going price for the most reasonable KGB/NKVD/MVD badges these days is upwards of $400.00
To illustrate the above, here's the back of a 50 Year Anniversary badge:Attached FilesLast edited by Greg Collins; 11-08-2008, 08:13 PM.

Yes Ralph, it is a nice badge which, unfortunately, is not part of my collection. From what I can gather, this badge was awarded to the top KGB officers. Having said that, I wonder if, perhaps, it may have been awarded to top officers of, say, the MfS (DDR) or KDS (Bulgaria), as the KGB seemed to have had a high regard for both of these organizations. By the way, the document for this badge is worth about the same as the badge itself- more if it has the autopen signature of Yuri Andropov.

Hey Greg - Yes it is a nice badge and it would have been given out to members of the MfS...And thanks for the heads up about the autopen signature of Yuri Andropov.Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group
