    Russian WWII flag fragment

The pictured flag is a real puzzle to me. It is one side of a Russian embroidered flag, standard design, but with the workers of the world, unite, lettering carefully removed and replaced with a gilt painted death to the german occupiers. The padding on the reverse of the flag was a newspaper, dated 1941, so it could not have been made before then. Really odd is a hand stamp on the front for the KPD, Comm Party of Germany, from the leadership of the city/district of tirschenreuth.
my guess is this was taken by nazi troops as a souvenir, divided, and after the defeat fell into the hands of the early postwar communist party and returned to the USSR, landing in the U S during the great flag emigration following the dissolution of the soviet empire. Any other ideas not necessitating UFO activity will be welcomed and considered.

Hi Robert, I cannot explain this item at all, but it is certainly very interesting!

          Cheers, Ade.
