    Unusual Greatcoat

Would like some opinions on this greatcoat I bought little while back. It has early/mid war subdued collar tabs ("M35" insignia). However the coat is clearly postwar and the seller claimed from 1960s, although I cannot find any date.

Talked with some reenactors and said it wa modified for GPW movie production/military pageant. One man said he knew someone in Soviet Army in 1980s who said there were variety of collar tab variations still used.

You have really answered your own question. It is a post war greatcoat with the addition of M35 subded insignia. This patern of tab was not used after 1943.

    Cheers, Ade.

I know I answered that. I am trying to find out when postwar that coat was made and whether anyone else has found one. I would like to know where on stamp date usually is - there are some numbers there but they are slightly faded.

I believe they are still being made. I have seen post communist photos of troops wearing the overcoat, and I just met a Russian 20 year vet who showed me how to do the blanket roll. He told me they still learn how during training.

I was just confused because seller say from 1960s and some said it was 1980s - not sure how to tell. When did they change from wartime tan to postwar grey-brown?

I am not sure about the M35 insignia being Soviet-produced for movies, etc. though - it could have been added over here but no clue how to tell.

the stamp is not really clearly readable. Normally the Last Number in The "GOST" Stamp is the Production Year. Might be a 88. The Number over it is the Model No. ending with a 84 so it's the Model 1984 Greatcoat. It's the late Soviet Union Enlisted Field Greatcoat with 3 Hooks (If I remember right) on the Front. I bought hundreds of them in the Early 90's when The Russians cleared their storages in Berlin.

BTW: I know where they come from. They're modified by Sturm for the Stalingrad Movies.

Thanks. This is what I wanted to know!

Actually there are four hooks on mine - do not know if that makes a difference. I was thinking of putting correct insignia (shoulderboards and collar tabs) on it. How hard would this be to do given that there are no provisions for shoulderboard left?

              regards
              Klaus
