It reads "Pacific Fleet" and I believe it was worn '60's through 90's, but I'm sure a uniform guy could give you the exact dates.

Does the diamond on the inside have any printing on it?

It could be worn off through use or it might not be there at all. Not there at all except a size number usually suggests to me very late - 1990's.

Correctly. However it not 60 years. It is second half seventieth and later. In the sixtieth there was simply a star You can look year of release on the label.

Unless it is 1990's Soviet in which case there will not be anything but the size...

Didn't the Soviet Navy switch to the generic VMF tally sometime? Or is that an Ukrainian invention?

I know that the Soviet Navy adopted generic should boards for their fleets (with the exception of the Baltic Fleet). These boards had a simple cyrillic "F" in yellow.
I think that the cap bands continued to display the regional fleet name right up until the break-up of the Soviet Union.

So are the ubiquitous Voenno Morskaya Flota Tallies are Fake (made by ukrainian sellers)? Or are they from the 1989 regulations and were almost never issued. If the latter, that cuts down the possible dates for this cap by merely 1 year

Maybe those tallys refer to something else? Perhaps shore based naval establishments that are non-fleet specific or maybe they are wartime only?

Or of course they are post-Soviet and that is what the modern Russian Navy wear?

i have the same one, bought of the soviet sailor himself on the ship he was serving on (while I visited the ship,he actually saw me looking at his cap, put the fingers up for price, took it off and traded it for the money) Even today you can still vaguely smell his hair lotion.

                        Always wondered what it said

So the VMF tallys are what the Russian Federation Navy wear?
