    Late Telogroika use ?

Does anyone have a copy of the Soviet uniform regulations from 1958 and 1969?

If so, does it show the m43 style telogroika still in use for enlisted mans winter field use?

Am looking for an approximate date when they stopped using them...

Hi Andy, I don't have those dress regs, I am sure mine is dated 1971.

    Cheers, Ade.

Yes, most of the ones I have seen in use with us GPW reenactors are 70's dated - mine is 76 I think!

However, I am starting to see some abnormalities between dress regs and production dates in several things and am just investigating this a little further with this one.

Hi Andy, I wondered if this might be the case

I have the 74 regs and its not in that but suspect it also isn't in the 69 ones either - would be logical as all the 43 pattern gear ended at that point generally... but would love to know from someone with the books.

I've got both the 58 and 69 regs. I'll take a look tonight and let you know.

In the beginning of 70 years these things have stopped to use in Army. However and later it was possible, see at the PARTIZAN (the citizen has suggested armies to enter from a stock). I saw last time in 1975 during greater military maneuvers with use of a plenty of the citizen these clothes...

Can confirm that they are present in the 57 and 58 regulation books but not in the 1970 book. This isn't to say that they weren't still used. There were probably thousands of units left over from the time of its discontinuation.

One other added note...when I was living in Russia in the early 90s, I saw them worn by municipal workers (in addition to the civilian black and blue colored ones). So they were worn all the way up 50 years after the end of the War...

Oh I have no doubt they weren't destroyed... the Soviets never destroyed anything military at all, it all went into reserve stock to equip their reserve units (which was basically every man who had ever been a conscript - ie all of them!)

Thanks for looking that up Ciaran!

No, the thing of interest here is that there are items in my collection produced years after they had been superceded - the telogroika being just one of them.

I can only guess for some reason the retooling of their production lines was out of sync with the change of dress regs?

One thing I did notice when looking up your request today is how out of date the Soviet Infantryman looked compared to his western counterpart. The brown greatcoat and steel helmet looked no different to the Soviet infantryman of WWII. Comapare that to the British Infantryman of the same period, the two were like chalk and cheese.

True, but one of my friends who was with the British Army in the 70's was telling me they were wearing the '44 pattern helmet, wool battle dress and 37 pattern webbing right up till the late 70's!
