Erm, so a Motor Rifles regiment in a Tank division would wear motor rifles insignia on black collar tabs, but what patch and shoulderboards?

Black shoulder boards for sure, but the arm patch for the greatcoat or parade uniform I am unsure - I assume the black tankists one? Good question! I have only ever seen summer everyday dress for EM or officer's uniforms for this type of "reverse" configuaration.

Would these motorized riflemen of the regiment wear velvet or felt collar tabs? Was it possible for this to happen to an officer?

Velvet is a Tankest thing as this Rezident understands it....other Technical Branches use Serge material, it is correct for all Ranks. .

The Arm Patch following the Logic, will be the Type of Formation you are part of .. the historical Documents show this, hence...
Tankests in an All Arms Division wear Red with their own Branch of Service Badges, the Arm shield would be Red All Arms...

As Company of Motor Rifles in a Tankest Division you would wear Black Velvet, as would any Arm of Service organic to that Division, wearing of Tankest Arm Patch would follow but is now a leap of Progressive ( within the Norms) Faith... I have no Historical Documents covering this...
