Russian General Uniform and rows of medals, value?

    Hello guy's:

I have a generic question. I know a fellow who is getting a Russian General uniform plus medals, rows of them. I have no pictures yet, but can anyone throw out a value for something like this???? Purchased in Russia 10 years ago from the General.

I have no idea of what it would be worth. Any help greatly appreciated. Evidently times are tough over there and this was bought for next to nothing. I have not seen it yet, but will buy it and put it on the site at a resonable price

Hi Rich, if the uniform is wartime, it would be worth a good price. Have a look here to get some ideas:

            value

I would not get a value from Trident; the stuff there is modern made ( i do not think thats a secret, i think the items are sold that way when you can order sizes!) so the values will be way off.

The uniform should be easy to value, but the medals will add quite a bit of complication to the valuing.

              Thanks Gentlemen

Thanks for the information.. When I get the pictures I will put them up. I believe it is a Generals uniform in the Black or blue color with a Visor. You never know what these things are going to be. It was purchased in Russia in 1994. It is a new uniform I think. Not sure of that either. I do know it was purchased from the General and will get his name if possible. Stay tuned for more. It is out of my area of collecting but I will put it on at a very reasonable price. I just do not want to spend 1500.00 for a 500.00 uniform. I will run it past you folks first

              Great sites, thanks again,

              Rich

                Hi Rich:

It's tough to judge. Is it really a general's uniform? Folks "not in the know" think that any uniform with stars is a generals uniform, and as we know, all of their ranks have stars. Another HUGE variable is what medals are on the uniform. Was the general a WW2 veteran? If he was awarded the Order of Nevsky, ad $1500 to the uniform. Was he a post-war general with NO personal awards (they did exist) then his awards might be worth a whopping $200 at best. What documentation is there with the awards? If there are no serial numbered awards, the value goes down. But perhaps if there are nice serial numbered awards with photos of the general in the documents, the price goes way up.

Based on the description, I would say that your uniform could be worth anything from $300 to over $100,000. I'm not really kidding either...I sold the uniform group to a general with three Orders of Suvorov 1st class to the person who owned the medal group...those medals alone are worth over $100K a piece, so you figure that uniform (with medals) would be well worth over half a million dollars.

Once you get pictures, please post them up here so we can see what you might be getting and help with a much more realistic valuation.

                Dave

Just to add in another point Rich used the word "Russian" together with the date "1994", this could even be a Russian Federation uniform....
