Obr 43 Gym in wool: a wartime relic?

Hi Guys, one of our LH group members who lives out in St Petersburg has given me this woolen gym. He was thinking it would be OK to use for a medical scenario and cut it off a "wounded" comrade given the condition. However, I think it is too good for that despite, the big mouse and moth bites and might even be a wartime made item?

I have little to no experience with woolen gyms. But there are several aspects I like about this one. The different materials used in the pockets, pocket flap linings and cuff linings. The thick khaki wool is a good match for wartime US blanket wool. The gym has been well used with lots of wear. The buttons (now all missing) being replaced many times with different coloured threads being used.

One odd aspect is I cannot find much evidence of any pogoni being fitted? No loops for slip on straps or button holes.

    I would welcome any comments.

    Cheers, Ade.

Pocket and drill lining to front.

This gym has no extra internal pocket for the ID document as found on post war gyms.

            Final pic.

Here is the lining detail to the sleeve. Note the shoulder pad.

            Cheers, Ade.
