I was given the badge pictured below last week by a friend who knows i'm into this sort of stuff. He was given it by his father who said he had originally obtained it during the early seventies when Russians had visited his place of work. As far as he can recall they were made specially for the occasion and commemorated a particular village, town etc. that was totally wiped off the face of the earth by the invading German forces during WWII. A small number of them were given to the workers with my friends father ending up with the one pictured below. Although I have searched the net I cannot find any corroborating information to this effect. Nor can I locate any other examples of this badge. I can't even work out the possible name on the front of the badge!
The badge is precisely 20mm * 13mm. Gilded, I think. Enamelled red background on the front. Two markings on the reverse (MM's?). Pin has been previously bent out of shape but looks to be original to the badge.
Nice little curio.
Any ideas?
Regards .... Sid
