Soviet Medal-Bar - The Defender of Moscow

Just got this nice soviet medal-bar from WWII. Medals are

Order of Glory 3. class (serial-no.: 231550; awarded in 1944/45)
Medal for Military Merit (serial-no.: 1968476; awarded in 1944/45)
Medal for the Victory over Germany
Medal for the Defense of Moscow

Nice simple Glory 3 group on original suspension. It is a shame that research is now so haphazard, as the Glory and Military Merit citations are often so good. But the research would probably cost you more than the group did and might spoil the party by revealing a missing Red Star or some such!

Yes, I don't try to research it, but I am sure this soldier was a brave man. Orders of Glory weren't "donated"...

You never knew WHAT was going to come out of the Archives... while they were briefly open.

I had a nifty group, no medals, so just all the Orders in a "valid without photo" Orders Book--

so I picked an OPW 2nd as the most likely to be "exciting" (Red Banner, Red Stars & MMMs might have been mere long service etc)... and got back...

the most excruciating citation Igor Moiseyev ever suffered through. The guy was a divisional quartermaster, and the Short Version is:

he got it for exceeding quotas of vegetables and tea kettles sold in the unit PX, at profit to the State figured to 3 decimal points!

Great citation! And a good example of why it is sometimes useful to pay lots of money to check even common stuff.

And the most recent news on the Soviet Medals forum is that the archives are now, occasionally, kind of, "open" again, maybe.
