Is it an NFA rifle(short barreled rifle), so this is one of the pre 922 guns.

922? Ahh it’s when they first banned assault rifles in the 1980's it’s a pre 86 I believe. I was too young to remember lol.

It is not deactivated it shots 7.62x39 ill take it shooting with me on Wednesday day if any cares to join down at Spring Valley shooting range here in Ohio.

                  assault weapons ban 1989 - 90

I use to have one of those back in 1989 then they got banned the same year [California] they were banned from import and sale

if you go to the range with one of those in CA , people will keep asking is it legal? is it registered?

Nice rifle. I'm looking for a blued underfolder too; is that the original color to the wood?
