A Dumb Question...

On Soviet Army visor caps, I see two basic kinds of cockade. Round, such as the one pictured here:

And round with decorations to the side, like this:

Amd I correct that the first type of cockade was used for service hats while the second was used for parade? Just asking because I see a lot of service hats (brown in color, not dark green) with the second type cockade. Those would be put-togethers, right? Thanks.

Thanks folks. I was pretty sure that was the case. My big Cold War collecting kick has always been DDR items and am fairly new to the USSR so now and again I suffer from a lack of faith in my own common sense.
