Need help to ID soviet submarine badge

    Hello guys!

I hope you can help me with some information regarding this badge. I have always wanted a submarine badge like this from the soviet period. I have just returned from a 2 weeks vacation in Ukraine, and in one of the markets in Kiev I found this badge. But I will need some help to ID it:

    1. Witch period is it from?
    2. Is it for private/officer/both?
    3. Is it for personnel at any special type of submarine?

    Thank you in advance

Nice one!! Much better than average.
I'm not a specific collector of these but yours is only the second I've seen with the hammer and sickle within the enameled red star. My guess is that it's from an earlier era.
Captains wore these, perhaps other officers but not just anyone (no enlisted).
              Thanks,

                Hello Adrian, Ralph and Eric!

Thank you for your kind help. Now I learned a few more things about my holiday souvenir from Kiev

“The gilt is issued to commanders of groups of ships or subs (Captains 1st rank and admirals)... "

And what you write about the hammer and sickle is very interesting Eric. Well, it sure is a pretty badge
