Please: Concerning wartime and postwar examples; width of the tape itself, and the font size of designation. What is the difference? Do you know?

        Espenlaub,

Thank you very much for sharing your beautiful and extensive collection. I have long found naval cap tallies to be an interesting subject and even put a little group of Imperial German tallies together quite a few years ago.

        Thanks again and Happy Collecting,

Usually war time tally width is approximately 35 mm, post war 30 mm. But my war time tallys is from 33 til 37 mm. Guard's tallys I have is allways the same width, (I do not collect tallys from 70's ), interesting that my war time guards tally is narrow than post war. Also the main difference is anchors-big anchors from the late of 1944 year. And of course inscription Like "Podvodnie sily KBF" or "Ohrana vodnogo rayona KBF" can not be a mid war or post war.

When did they stop having ship's names on the tallys?

I think it was just before WW2...

Really, I look for that information myself, but nothing found. I've ask some veterans and old collectors ( no info in archives was found) and they told that they was issued till the mid of 1941. Officially they was distributed by the command of the ship, lately they used across the war and not officially used them till the end of 1940's. Only AVRORA still produced.
I have one in my collection- LUGA, the military transport shiff which was exploded on the mine in 1941 near Tallinn ( alive crew after landing, mostly killed in action as they take a part of naval infantry and fight against Wehrmacht and OMAKAITSE ( Estonian self defence in WW2) near LOKSA). Crew-80 men, no more than 200 pcs of tallys were produced, how many of them is still available?
MAKSIM GORKY-cruiser, exploded on mine, 23 june of 1941 year, but was repaired in Kronschtadt and ended his live in early 1950's. 936 (if I'am not mistaken) persones crew no more than 2000 pcs of tallys were produced. Mostly I collect Baltic fleet, but today is very, very hard to get usual tally with KRANOZNAM. BALT. FLOT ( I have shortened, and not in good shape) . Really, real good stuff from WW2 is very hard to get. Sometimes you have money- but no offers.
              Cheers,
              Dimas

Thats interesting Dimas... I have looked for named Red Fleet tallys too but never found one, even at silly money.

I have a good link somewhere to an interesting page on Soviet tallys with some really good information... will post it later if anyone is interested.
