    Russian Daggers

    Gentlemen,
I have the opportunity to purchase several WW2 era Russian daggers. They are in good condition and I believe they are army and navy dress daggers. They are not dated as far as I could see. Iwould like to find out what kind of value they hold and if there is a strong buyers market for them like there is for German daggers. I do not have photos of them.

It depends on what the seller means by "WW2 era". If they are actually WW2, they are quite valuable (I haven't looked for one for sale, but I'd take a guess that they're running around $300-$400 nowadays, but I could be wrong). If they're post war (I'm selling a gorgeous 1955 dated one right now on eBay) they're worth about $185-$250 depending on the person buying. Are they like collecting German daggers? Not in the least... I don't know of a single collector of "only" Soviet daggers though there are plenty of collectors of German daggers. They aren't really that big of a field, honestly... Most people I know of own maybe one or two as examples, and some people own a couple nice high end ones as examples.

If you can post up more information, I could probabky give you some more un-general info about them.

      Daggers

      Dave,
      Thanks for the info.
I won`t be able to get the daggers until after the 6th of Feb. When I saw them I really thought they were cool, not having seen Russian daggers before. Its not my collecting field, and I hate to pass on any WW2 stuff. If I invest in them I just wanted to know what would be a fair price to offer the seller and not get taken in the process.

        Chris:

Collectrussia has a selection of daggers, so you can get a general feel of prices and see photos of them. Being that he's a dealer and selling "at retail" (as dealers are supposed to) I'd say that you could probably reduce the price by around 25% if buying from a private party.

You can also search ePay for them. (Yes, a plug for mine, it's the one closing in ~4 hours with belt...)

Blimey, there's some banditry going on on that "daggers" page isn't there...

I know where those SVT bayonets with the blued blades come from and they are 60GBP a pop.

The Shaskas all come from a contact of mine in the US too...

And people like to slag Bob Gowen off for such things...
