My father just picked up a Soviet Tokarev holster that is dated 1986. I didn't know the Soviets were still using Tokarevs by that time, let alone making holsters for them. My dad is a gun-guru and certainly knows his stuff and he swears up and down that it is for a Tokarev. I'm a little confused. Can someone shed some light here? By the way, the holster is made of the same kind of brown leather as their Makarov holsters

Can you post some pics of the holster? Are you sure it's Soviet? It could be yugoslav, as yugo army used lots of TT's until the bitter end. It was actually quite popular among some officers who prefered stronger TT's ammo instead of weak bullets of more modern pistols. Of course these were yugoslav copies of TT-33 (called M-57) and the more modern (but weaker) opportunity was M-70, a yugoslav made pistol (I'm not sure what was this copy of, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't totally genuine
) in weak 7,65 mm ammo.
