Second Model AK-47 how rare are these? The reason I ask is I have a chance to get one. Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.

Very rare in the US. Most Kalashnikovs are stamped-receiver AKM-style variants, with the exceptions being the Chinese Polytech "Legend" and Bulgarian AKs.
Is this an actual AK-47, from the USSR and with a milled receiver?
If so, I think it would have a lot of value, for collectors.
I see you are in Canada. Is it a deactivated?

The second model (here dated 1954) is quite hard to come by...
The type 3 (in use until 1961) is easier to get....
Such a type 3 below, you can get in Germany (deac to german standards) for about 470.00 Euros....
Your cold war display could also look like this (until 1961,after,better use an AKM or AKMS)....

Hi Chris,
The display is not that correct. The motor-rifleman,is dressed with a M-69 uniform and should have instead an AKM with wooden stock and the passing bayonet.
On the pic,he has an AKS 47 (which doesn't fit for the period and was rather issued to tank and airborne troops) and a AK-74 bayonet!!!!!
