    M36 Helmet Opinions ??

Just bought this M36 today ..never owned one so I've been trying to compare it to posted examples. The Red Star if faint but there. The sweatband is Brown Leather , not black as most have ...and the Corrugated band is missing ..the rivets are there but they do look re-hammered. The chin strap doesn't match with some posted examples either
Is it common to find these with that corrugated band removed ?
Open for opinions on this one ..whatcha think ?

Both are good, both are war time Leningrad re-issue (named-"blokadnik") with typical beize cloth with funny flowers and type SSch 39 liner...
Absolutely normal leather chinstraps , all is OK

Mike, not all Ssh-36 had corrugated band. So as Espenlaub said, this is an original and normal Ssh-36.

                    Didn't know this is a Blokadnik Ssh-36. I thought
Blokadnik helmet were made out of very thin metal like mine my Ssh-39 : http://www.wehrmacht-awards.net/foru...d.php?t=132516

You have a rare full made Blokadnik, 36-s has only blokade liners, but also has name Blokadnik.

Thanks for the great news Gents ..There are many ref books on German and US Helmets but , not much out there on the Soviet Models and variations . So I really appreciate the help.
I am a little confused though ..Espenlaub , do you mean that my 36 is the rare full made Blokadnik ? Or is mine the 36-s that has only the Blockade Liner but is also called a Blokadnik ?
Maybe I read it wrong and you were talking about "Soviet's" Helmet not mine ?

He said that yours has a liner that was made during the Leningrad Blockade (not the shell). I didn't know your liner would have been made there during the siege.

Thanks Soviet ...I guess they were making and using 2 types of Liners during the Seige .
I just noticed that Bender has a Book out on Just Russian Helmets ..looks like that will be on my Christmas List this year.
I'm glad I found this one!
                            Thanks guys !

Here is the webpage from the autor you are speaking about.
                              http://www.personal.kent.edu/~rclawson/RussianHelmets/

There is some informations out there that wasn't in the book or that have been corrected.

This is a nice starter book on Russian helmets and I believe the only one in English on the suject. However, the book is far from being complete on the subject. It doesn't speak about all possible variations on the subject, like for exemple your type of liner. It sticks a bit more on the factory issued "standard" helmets. It is still very enjoyable to read and gives you a first sight on the subject.
