    Soviet Star

    Hello

I bought this beautiful soviet star about 10 years ago ( plm. 125 dollars )
The seller told me that it was partly made of real gold ,this was confirmed by a goldsmid.
Can somebody tell me something about the period this nice medal was made ?
Also I would like to know for what it was awarded
The seller told me that it was from 1942.
I also would like to know who was rewarded with this number ,I was told that this information can be found by tracking the number on the award .
I hope there is a forummember who can help me.

    Thanks , Mario

Hello Mario and welcome on the forum. Yes it is possible to research those awards. With the serial number it is possible to know who was the recipient, when it was awarded an for what. The star is made of 583/1000 parts gold. The variation from your medal dates from 1943 and over. So it wasn't in 1942 that your was issued. I will PM you the ionformation to research your award. It would be nice to see the serial number engraved.

          Tot ziens!<o>

              Hello Brian

              Thanks for your information!

Do think it was a good price I paid for it ten years ago?

              Regards Mario

                  Hi Mario:

Yes, $125 is a good price for it, though back at that time that was about the "right" market price for one like this. Without the damaged enamel, these sold for around $150-$170 back at that time, but the enamel isn't perfect on this one so the price is about right. Today, these sell for anywhere from $325 up to $500, depending on type and condition.

You can find out who this award - the Patriotic War 1st Class as it is called - was awarded to. This one might be quite interesting as it appears to have a 252308 serial number (I can't see it completely clearly on my monitor) which means it's from around June/July 1945. The research for it will run about $60 to get the man's citation and award card. For more information about research, you can check out my research page on my website:

                  http://www.forvalor.com/s57.htm

(Which is badly in need of updating, so I'll apologize ahead of time!)

Hope that helps. Drop me a PM if you'd like more information.

                  Dave

Hello! This two are from my collection. You can see # is at 7 o`clock very rare, usually at 6.

Interesting, are these both to the same person? The style of the engraving is similar, if not the same. From the numbers, they are reissues for old types obviously.
