    Strange Soviet holster

I picked up this holster the other day...

    Bigger than a Makarov holster

Has a second pocket... possibly for a silencer I think.

Thought it was for the silenced Makarov used by the MVD, but when i place my (DDR rubber) Makarov in it it seems like the bit for the pistol is slightly too big for a Makarov?

Its OTK stamped and 1982, so definitely Soviet.

    Any ideas?

I now believe this to be the holster for the silenced Makarov based design "PB" pistol.

The PB is slightly larger than the normal PM, which explains the size difference plus the proportions of the length of the pistol vs the screw on silencer are the same as exhibited by this holster.

I always though the silenced PM was just that, but its not the PB is totally externall different!

It's the KGB used one with Silencer compartment. They also had some in line (with Mag pouch under the Grip or in front of the silencer) without flap so that it is not that thick under the Jacket.

        Cheers Nico!

Have you ever seen the leg holster for the AKS74U used by helicopter pilots?

Do the KGB wear this holster outside of their uniform or hide inside?

I suggest this one I have is worn outside - it has belt loops like a normal holster and a flap and a loop for attaching the lanyard to it.

I think Nico is saying there is a shoulder holster for the PB too....

They have also a shoulder holster, but the one I mean is a belt type one. Somewhere I have them from the Stasi, so that I can post a pic there, but the Soviet ones are all gone.

Just wondering, why would the KGB wear a holster for a silenced pistol on the outside? I thought most silenced firearms were used for clandestine activity and you wouldn't want to advertise that you have such a weapon on you? Really, I'm not trying to be a smart-aleck. Just curious.

It wasn't just KGB though - I have seen pictures of OMON using these (remember OMON has been around since 1979, its not just a modern thing!)

Sorry, but never was allowed to visit the Depot at Sperenberg Airfield, so I never saw in in real use.

I only heard about those this weekend from a friend of mine... I'd LOVE to get one of those!

(am also looking for the NAZ-1 helicopter crew survival vest...)

                        Kozlov,
Could you post a pic of the OMON using these holsters? I am still having a hard time understanding why a person would need/want to wear a holster with a provision for a silencer out in the open. When I think of silencers, I think of men doing "dirty/nasty" things to other people and I don't think they would want to be noticed doing these activities. Thanks.

                          I'll try and find it...

Silencers are used by people (particularly HRT type applications) who don't want to be distracted/deafened by their own gunfire or for intimidation purposes...

Yes the sneaky thing is one angle, but there are others...

I'll try and find the pics for you.

This is OMON we are talking about Comrade.... .

They are not even 1% nice people, a Comrade of "ours" wore an OMON Uniform to a Military Vehicle gig over here in the UK SSR , a Russian dealer was double taken by this... he said it was very good scale of issue, but it let down by "our" Comrade not punching people and telling them to " Tugboat" off!.....a Fine Body of Men!....
