          flag

The flag is a very common mass produced soviet labor award flag from the 1980's. Its says on the A side (without doing a word for word) that its for the winner of a socialist competition; the small print is the standard 'workers of the world unite'.

The B side symbols are the crests of each of the Soviet republics.

The flag is civilian, not military; I am sure someone can do a better job of giving you a word for word translation of the A side.

These can be bought at Izmoilova or Arbat in Moscow for under $40 (at least last time i was there). The heavy velvet ones are a bit nicer and a bit more money (though tougher to fit in your luggage).

            Hi Thälmannpionier,

With regard to your question in post #3, I think that you will find that these are the seals of the various “Republics” of the Soviet.

            Best wishes,

I think it is a great looking banner....even if it is possible to get it relatively cheaply in Moscow...but they were not available for sale last time I was there... Cheers, Torsten.

I am amazed that you were unable to find them; I was in Tallin last year and you could even find them there. The velvet ones are a bit tougher to find, but the silk ones are still common. Did you go to Izmailova on a weekend?

I was at Izmalova Park market last weekend and I have to say that they have much more military stuff than 3 years ago, the last time I was in Moscow. It stills very nice to go there. There was also many silk and velvet flags for sale. I haven't ask for the price of them though.
