    Sovjet Uniforms

    hello,
does anyone of you know books about the prices for sovjet uniforms?
and if there any fakes on the market, how to differ.
    thanks in advanced christian

I do not know of ANY guide to prices. The books that ARE out there are about identifying uniforms, not putting values on them.

It all comes down to what any of us are willing to pay for items ourselves.

I'd say a WW2 Soviet General for the cost of a Wehrmacht private is still quite a bargain!!!

Type in "Soviet uniform" or "Soviet insignia" in the Search bar on this forum and see all the old threads still in here for some older insignia and uniforms.

One easy thing to check is the buttons: early ones are hollow 2 piece metal and unmarked, from about 1953 those are dated with some form of maker mark, so "Mosshtamp 57" etc etc, then in the late 1960s they went to horrible plastic buttons, one piece with shiny flashed on metal finish (dull tunic colored plastic for field uniforms) which continued having buttons dated. Check them all to make sure they all match, though obviously sometimes the original wearer DID lose one and replace it. But if you have 6 buttons with 6 different dates....

Just describe boards, tabs, buttons, single row of buttons, double row of buttons etc etc and we can ID what/when.

Geezzz. I would think that a uniform for 20 Euro would be a steal. Heck, take everything off the uniform and sell it by itself and make money on it if that is why you are getting it. OR--20 Euro for a great Carnival costume! That is coming up soon!!! Mike

ok, i would look that's possible to me to go on saturday on this weekly fleemarket and take it if it's still there.
but anyway, i would be pleasened over any helps in choosing books about soviet uniforms.
if you have a good one, you can also make an offer.
            thanks christian

Sounds like a naval officers dress jacket

but then there should be cuff rank too.

                So: The Interrogation Begins!!! --

                1) Look on the backs of all the buttons. Those should probably bear the maker's name (almost always Mosshtamp) and TWO DIGIT YEAR OF MANUFACTURE. Look at all of them to make sure they match. Double row of buttons?

                2) METAL collar insignias, or bullion?

                3) DESCRIBE the shoulder boards: gold metallic bullion or silky material? Bullion star or metal? Sewn down 4 sided, or 6 sided removable with a button? NO stripes on the top of the board (checkered pattern), or one line up the middle or two lines dividing the board into thirds? What color are the stripes and the piping?

                4) And what is on the cuffs?

That will be all... for now!!

                  hello,
thanks much for your time - i need much o----

the buttons: smaller once on the sleeves, and bigger once on the dubble row. sleeve MOOWTAMand the last one is a U but upside down also two stars and and on two the number 65 and on one71 and on the other 49.
dupple row, same name, also 2 stars and the numbers 68, 76, 68, 68, 68, and 68 - but those have a dark back, dark brown.

collar insignias: stamped metall - th "plants" with metall pins attached and the anchor with string.

boards: feels like a metall string, yellow, with a metall star. put on the jacked on the long sides with a yello/orange string, two lines dividing the boards (they are black)

cuffs: the two buttons, 3 yellow lines and above them a star (on both sides the same).

hope you can say more with this informations

                  thanks a lot christian

Well, depending on which are the original buttons and which are replaced... probably a 1968 jacket, "Captain 3rd Rank" of executive "zur See" corps, same as a Major in the army.

You did OK on the price! Nooooowwwww, you need the parade medals of someone with 15+ years of service then!

You think 60 Euros is a good price? I remember getting a dozen gaz masks for 3$ each a few years ago in Budapest. The uniforms probably didnt coast much more, but I didnt care back then. Now I wish I had bought some...

                        Time and prices....

luckily I "stocked up" on uniforms enough to fill my closet space before the supply dried up and the prices skyrocketed.

There is a difference, of course, in brand new surplus, 1980s, 1950s and so on.

I'd class the stuff from before the 1969 uniform changes as more collectible than the 1969-90s stuff.

Demand, supply.... just like any other field of military collecting.
