I think it is some kind of AK47 bayonet? Post war stuff is not really my thing. The frog is some kind of conversion to enabale it to be used with US style webbing as it has the M1910 hanger on it. See if here is any help?

This bayonet is definately for an AK-47, or the later AKM. This style frog is the first that I have seen, but the scabbard, and handle resembles either a Soviet, or Hungarian issue piece. I've owned a Hungarian blade like this, and the handle was of a reddish brown bakelite. I've also owned a Soviet verison with the Ishevsk proof mark of an arrow within a triange on the handle, and scabbard.

There are books out on the market for collectors of AK bayonets. In my opinion, one can rule out East German because most of those have black grips. In addition to maybe Soviet/Hungarian, there is a possibililty that this could have been made in Romania.

Regardless of origin, you have a very nice bayonet!

Looks like it might have been brought back out of Iraq! I've seen AK bayos come out of Iraq with strange modifications. I agree with Roy, it is probably a Hungarian or Russian bayonet, but I'm leaning more towards Hungarian. Hope this helps!

Iraq (or another Middle East country that uses the AK) is a good guess for the sheath. Or it could have been something somebody did themselves. I have bought or seen all manner of bayonets that were used as hunting knives or garage tools and screwed with by their owner.

Your bayonet is definately not from the WWII era. I would say it would be from around 60s-80s vintage. The first bayonet made for the AK-47 (around late 40s-early 50s) was a rather slim blade, with a narrow handle. Some of these had a wooden handle and others had bakelite.

Here is an example of an early bayonet. This one was made in East Germany.

                      Oragno,

Its a Romanian AKM bayonet. Did it come outta Iraq? The Iraqis used a lot of Romanian AKM's (with the vertical foregrip).

Anyway, deffo Romanian with the webbing belt mount.

                        Luca,

All of the Warsaw Pact countries made these bayonets but each one did something a little different. Slight modifications to the scabbards, different material, and colour, to the handle etc. From the pictures you have posted it is almost impossible to tell which country produced it. If you cleaned it up a bit and took clearer fotos we would probably have a better chance at identifying it for you.

                        Regards,

                        Gordon
