      Hi Ed,

Here is some information you probably already know and doesnt really narrow the date down too much .. but:

      a. It's a Type 3
      b. Manufactured from 1944 thru ~ 1991
      c. S/N range for the Type 3 have been noted from 12,147 to 48,531

      *Info from McDaniel & Schmitt.

Based on two S/Ns I have in the 21.xxx and 23.xxx range, I would guess summer/fall 1944. These were from two different fronts and awarding was not entirely sequential, thus it is an educated estimate.

            Hello Ed,

its possible to research the owner. If you need a contact, send me a pm or just reply here and i´ll send you a message.

I would agree with the timeframe, desantnik mentioned. Maybe a little more to the end of 1944.

            regards,
            Gerd

Currently I'm having my Nevsky Order researched. The fellow doing the research informed me to expect around 2-3 months, but I'm very excited to learn about the history of the who was awarded this order when the research is completed!

                  Hello,
First of all I would like to thank Gerd Becker for helping me find a researcher for this piece. It took some time but well worth the wait.

This Nevsky was awarded to Lieutenant Mikhail Nikiforovich Khmelnitsky as Commander of the 2nd Platoon, 1st Mortar Company, 1259th rifle regiment, 381st division for actions on the Narew river(Poland) between January 14th and 20th, 1945. Award order No. 019/N of Feb. 27th 1945 to the troops of the 2nd Shock Army.

                      His citation reads:
Commander of the 2nd platoon, 1st mortar company, Lieutenant Khmelnitsky demonstrated bravery and courage in the battle breaking through the enemy defense line on the western bank of the Narew river between January 14 and 20, 1945. Comrade Khmelnitsky skillfully managed his elements fire, and in the result mortar fire from his Platoon destroyed 70 Germans in trenches, destroyed 6 weapon emplacements and made two openings in wire entanglements which enabled an attack of rifle elements. For demonstrated firmness, courage and bravery Comrade Khmelnitsky deserves the goverment award, order of the Patriotic War II.
Acting Commander of the 1259th rifle regiment.
                      January 23rd, 1945 signed, Maytrykin?

                            Ed, you are very welcome!

As you probably know, for most of the war each soviet rifle unit had a mortar company attached with 8 82mm-Mortars(from 1942-45). As a Platoon commander he probably had 4 Mortars under his command.
