Russian Medals for the rescue of the Priz

    Hi ,

Found this pic on the internet of the Royal Navy men who helped rescued the 7 Russian sailors on the Priz . The statement says that they were awarded the naval acheivement medal and one man got the friendship medal ?

What are the medals shown here ?

And does anyone know where i can see close ups of these ?

    Cheers

    Hi Grant,

There are two men with the "Order of Friendship" the 1st and the 4th from left. The other ones wear what seems to be the "Maritime Merit" order. I wonder why the got different awards.

Also, I am not familiar with what happened can you post a link to an article? What service are the two individuals wearing the "clup jackets" in?

    Thanks,

    Albert

      Here you go :

Basically the small Russian Sub the Priz was on a secret mission checking the status of a Russian listening pipeline when it got snared in old cable and fishing nets , Putin fearing another Kursk asked for help from Japan and America . Britain has a specialist submarine rescue squad who got involved and got to the east coast of Russia with the Americans . The British unmanned vehicle got down to the stricken Priz cut the cables and enabled it too surface just before it air ran out .

        Albert,

Yes, seing this picture I was also curious for the same reason, why they were not all awarded with the same award!
I wonder if it has to do with the ranks of those British Royal Navy men!
As I know nothing about uniforms and ranks I have no idea what their ranks are

Can you identify their ranks? What do you think?

        Best,

        Dolf

          Hi ,

The men who got the Naval merit medal were the ones who actually helped in the rescue , they are from the submarine rescue centre and are connected with but not actually in the Navy . The Navy officers who got the friendship medal helped organise and transport them over to Russia , The Navy Officer on the right who also got the Navy merit medal was on the ship liasing with the Russian Navy Crew .
