    Anyone recognise the monument?

Hello all I have this photo in a Wehrmacht album and would like to know if anyone knows which city this monument may be. I have a close up of the inscription if this will help. Thanks in advance. Mike

Your quite welcome. BTW, here is a hint that I was able to use in order to find the information for you. If you notice on the top of the monument, there is a lady holding three stars. These same stars appear on the national arms of Latvia.

What is interesting is this Castle(?). Very distinctive and I have it in 2 different albums. I know it is in the northern climes as in one of my albums the river is frozen solid..
oh it is taken from the above bridge..

Surprised that no one has had any info on this as it looked like something that would have survived the war and been a architecual landmark. Thanks again for looking. Mike

My first hunch would be to say Novgorod. Maybe Vladimir or Suzdal. The problem is there are so many of these type churches all over western Russia. You would have to bump into someone who specifically knows which one this exact one is.

This is an ancient Russian City of Pskov. Germans called it Pleskau. The bridge is over the River Velikaya.
