Group with Order of October Revolution

    Hi everyone,

i thought, i share this little group with you. Nothing exiting, but in my impression, groups with OOR don´t appear too often on the market, at least since i collect Soviet Orders (which is not long, i admit). Other Soviet Collectors confirmed my impression and others told me, that the OOR´s are often split from groups by dealers. I would love to hear other opinions to this.

    This is the group:

Order of the October Revolution Nr. 73.462
Order of the Red Star Nr. 3.602.335
Order of the Great Patriotic War 85 issue
    Victory over Germany
Valiant Labor in the Patriotic War
    Veteran of Labor
    several Commemorative Medals (see picture)

The Orders are documented, the Medals are not, but i have an ID, which confirmes all the Medals. Fortunately there is a photo in the group, on which he wears all his Medals. I haven´t seen many photos with OOR in wear, what about you?

    This is the group:

Here is the photo of the former owner Ivan Semenovich Muhkin, wearing all his awards above. He wears another commemorative badge. Can someone recognize it?:

      Gerd-

Nice group! This one actually belonged to a friend of mine years ago who brought it out of the former USSR.

I've been collecting Soviet awards for 14 years now and I've seen only a handful of groups with the Oct Revolution. I've owned one to a police colonel, and another to an HSL. I think I've seen maybe four more, one to a former partisan, and the rest were all groups to senior officers that were way above my purchasing ability! (I also owned one group to a HSU with a missing Oct Rev that the same person who originally owned your group bought from me and added a Oct Rev to it and sold it as part of the group!)

I think that most of the Oct Revs were awarded to labor recipients, and most of those groups get split when they are sold off - the Oct Rev goes one way, the Lenin, the RBL, etc. go other ways. That's the reason (I believe) that they're rarely seen in a group other than in a military award group.

        Hello Gerd,

I share your opinion OOR in groups is not a frequent case. The main reason it is not a military award. Many politicians and labour heros were awarded, and many of them did not have other awards or a single medal. On Russian web sites I meet 2-3 sets with OOR monthly.

Very nice group Gerd ! Congradulation. When you say you don't collect since a long time, may I ask you how long have you been collecting Soviet awards?

Very nice group Gerd ! I think, it is only the second or third time that I saw a OR group.

Thanks for the comments, gentlemen. I am very happy with this group, especially for the reason mentioned, which you all confirm, OOR´s in groups are not common to say at least.

Dave, i am not surprised, that you know this group. With the hundreds of groups, you owned, i will for sure buy another one, which was yours.

I am especially grateful for the picture, which was in the group and his Military-ID.

Dima, what do you think, how many are actually Military Awards? The one in my group is probably a Labor award, as he wasn´t active in the Military anymore, when he got the OOR.

Bryan, i am interested in Soviet Orders and Medals since quite some time now, maybe 3-4 years, but i study them closer and collect them only since a little over a year. I actually bought my first group from Dave maybe a year ago, which is still the nicest in my collection and made me addicte d to documented groups(beside his website).

Thanks for your points of view again everyone.

              best,
              Gerd

                  Hej Gerg, answering your question...
For me it is even funny to see the group and I am extreemly interested to know all details about this guy. First of all, it could be that you have a part of the full group. The veteran has no orders for WW2. The Red Star issued at the end of 50th beg. of 60th, OOR - the end of 70th, OGPW - after 1985. So all orders were issued after the war. Mr Mukhin had the both medals with Stalin: for Victory and for Valiant Labor - it means he partly participated in military operations and finished the war being a civilian man. Once strange thing more: he had a medal 50 years of Mil. Forces.(military men and former mil.men were awarded) but not 30 and 40 years?
So, if you want me to investigate further pls contact me via e-mail (kosintsev@yandex.ru) and I am now extreemly interested to know the truth of Mukhin's history. Maybe he was one of forgotten veterans and than, after 60th, it was an awards fall for him?
                  regards, Dima

                    Hello Dima,

thanks a lot for your interest. Take a look on this website, there are the most of his documents posted:

                    http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2771

Its absolutely possible, that he was a forgotten veteran, also as he got an OGPW 1st class, due to his wounds, i guess and not an OGPW 2nd class, as its often the case. Please let me know any coclusions, you reach while researching this group.

                    Thanks again

                    best regards,
                    Gerd

Soviet Small Arms Designers and the OOR

I've ust got through reading D.N. Bolotin's "Soviet Small-Arms and Ammunition" and out of the many photographs of the weapons and inventors (with alot of pictures of their awards) only one man is shown wearing an Order of the October Revolution. There are several pictures of those wearing the Order of Lenin but only one of the OOR. I find that strange.

                          Dima,

can you tell me, what the Dneprpetrovsk "Karl Liebknecht" factory made? Do you have any information to this factory?

                          Thanks in advance

                            Hi Gerd,
Today they produce pipes, bearings, bandages,... everything what is connected to "pipe rolling" production.
