    Hammer and Sickle Device

Does anybody know what this device is for? And maybe even have a picture of one in use?
It has inch-long prongs on the reverse.

    Thanks!

Officers in General. Also worn on the Winter and Side Caps for example.
Also saw them on the Field Caps with fold down Ear Flaps, there not only the subdued Badges.
Maybe a kind of Garrison Uniform.

This is a cockade for the everyday headdress of officers and some other categories of servicemen of the Soviet army.

Worn like in the Pic but with a black Plastic Strap for Warrant Officers is maybe what he meant by "other Servicemen

Yes, thanks for the clarification, the cockards was also worn by Warrant Officers (praporshick) and sergeants who served under the contract.

Thanks for this, Sergeants are new for me. Think with contract you mean Professional Soldiers, not serving their National Service.

Unfortunately, I do not know what a comparison of such soldiers will be with the Western armies. I'll try to explain. After serving two years in the Soviet Army on compulsory conscription, a soldier (sergeant) could continue to serve after the end of his service, but at the same time he received money for service and was equated in rights with Warrant Officers (praporshick)
