61 is the size and "78" may be the date.
    Thanks,

With the brownish outer fabric I would go for a czech Cap with Soviet Star.
There is a wholesaler in Germany who sells this configuration as original Soviet Enlisted and the Enlisted soviet ones with cocade as Officers.

The winter hat (ushanka) for soldiers of the Soviet Army looks different. Cap in discussion, most likely one of the Warsaw Pact countries

I'm not sure that the title of this post is correct: A Czapka ('shapcka') is the traditional 19th century lancers's headdress, originating in Poland and adopted by the lancers of many other armies, including the British, where they are still retained as ceremonial headdress. They bear no resemblance to the ushanka shown !

It is an ushanka indeed and no shapka. Could be of the Warsaw Pact countries, I don't know. It is not Soviet though. Another thought is that this is just a tourist piece of which thousands are sold on every streetcorner.

Try to moist the makersmark a bit. Perhaps it will show the full stamp. Than take a clear photo. Those latest three extra pics are unsharp and don't add anything.

The Russians in the Depot where I picked up some Bags full called them "Czapka Ushanka". Czapka ist just a word for a Hat or Headgear.

Guys, in Russian there is no word "Czapka" If you translate in pronunciation, then it will be correct to "Shapka," so the Russians are called any headdress worn in winter.
