This really isn't a high end award but is one of my favorites. It is a 5 year Anniversary Medal of the RPR. It is simple in design but distinguished and is made of silver and enamel.

I have a couple of RPR period decorations and I have to agree with you that the 5th Anniversary of the RPR is a great decoration and it's a personal favorite of mine.
Here's my contribution: this is the Order of the Star - first pattern. The order was established in 1947/1948 and was awarded in 5 classes, the first two classes were breast stars (gold and silver), the lower three on ribbons like this one (in gold, silver and bronze). In 1964 the design was changed to the more familiar type you show in five classes. I have a 4th and 5th class 2nd pattern from the RPR and can definitely attest that they are quite well made. This is one of my favorite Eastern Bloc orders.
I have to say in my experience the later RSR period decorations are more gaudy and less well made than their RPR brethren, but that's just my opinion.Last edited by eschena; 09-13-2006, 04:24 AM.Comment

Nice Order of the Star . I am looking for a 1st or 2nd cl in the RPR Version. I agree that the RSR versions are of an inferior quality in metals, opting for the use of shiny alloys instead of actual silver or German Silver alloy. Thanks for contributing to the thread.

The RPR awards are rarer and of better quality.
John F. there is one small mistake in what you wrote. The Order of labour only had 3 classes. The medal of labour is a separate medal, not the 4th class of the order.Comment

The medal of soldier's virtue, first and second class. The medal had three classes, but i never saw any example of the third class (i doubt they exist).
This medals were intended to replace the Medal of military virtue from the royal times (that only had two classes, it was the highest royal bravery award for soldiers and NCO). Many veterans were forced to exchange their royal medals with these ones.
The medal of soldier's virtue was the only communist award that could be awarded only for bravery. It was rarely awarded, for acts of bravery during catastrophic floods or earthquaqes.
