    Yet another Soviet helmet thread

I thought I understood all the variants, but can somebody help me out with this pair...

I've kept them the same way around in all three photos, so I don't confuse you.... and me!

Same type of liner (ok, one is brown and the other black!), same chinstrap type, same high rivetting, but one has a definite peak to the brim and the other barely more than the rest of the brim....

I only noticed this the other day, I thought them both to be M68 "coneheads"... go on, tell me where i've gone wrong

Answering my own question here, I'm guessing the left hand one is a M68, the other a M60... maybe its flippin obvious

Oh well, doing the photos helped me

You're right one is an SSh-60 and the other is an SSh-68

The confusing part is that the SSh-60 is the transition from three pads to four, and then later the helmet was made deeper. But from the photo they appear to be SSh-68s. But from the liner shot you can see the shape better.

Nice helmets either way. These are pretty common today but still nice examples.

I got two of the 68's totally unissued in the waxed paper... the slightly odd thing is that the other one (not in this photo) has a brown liner and not black. Or maybe the black one here is the odd one out.

But they were both straight from the factory...

Most of the 68's that I've seen have the brown liner. I think the black one is the odd one out.

I'll have a look tonight at the factory stamps in both the M68's and post some photos...

As far as I know they came from the same source, but maybe the "source" was just a shelf somewhere rather than the same factory
