      Hello Gerd,

The Para badge is post war (1960s). The number is for a different Para badge (Best and Instructor Parachutist) with two eyelets at the bottom.

The wing is a late Soviet Militia (Police) proficiency badge.

      Best regards,
      Albert

BTW I have not forgotten you list... Will do it this weekend.

Yes the hanging bit is number of jumps and for bigger numbers the main badge has a number on it too like "100" with a hanging "5" means 105 jumps.

And each time he makes a new jump, he changes the hanged number ? Seems quite complicated... But, maybe... (I'm not an expert...). Interesting to know in all cases.

            Cheers.

Is that right ?? If yes it's exaggeration... For every single jump chanching the number...

                  Adrian,

Honestly, I don't know !! That's the question I am asking, as this seems really a complicated system. But, who knows ?
                  If someone can confirm...

No idea if it was "for every jump", suspect the number was changed periodically, probably just in time for some big officer to inspect them ;-)

I can ask a desantnik friend of mine if you like...

Maybe the hangars were originally intended to be changed after every jump, but that turned out to be impractical. Thus one encounters on basic wings the hanger featuring a "1" and a "2" on the reverse. The first time I jumped in Russia in 1992, I jumped four times and looked in vain for a "4" hangar. NO ONE had anything but the 1/2 hangar, unlike the one featured in this thread - rarity I must say. My solution was to have my relative jeweler make one for me. As for instructor and master badges, the affixed number or hangar were only changed after completing a significant number of jumps to warrant the change. I solved my dilemma by being awarded the master badge the next time in jumped in '94. The award criteria was to have more than 80 jumps (even though the badge boldy bears "100") and be a jumpmaster, both of which I met. I'll generalize, but Slavs are not as anally retentive about wear of the military uniform as Anglo-Saxons. US/Brit sergeants major would tear their hear out!

                            Thank you. Great first-hand information.

So you think, this could have been done by the owner himself to signify his Jump-number? And its no problem, that the hanger is for another para-badge?

                            Thanks again

                            best,
