    Interesting Soviet Liner

I've never seen a Soviet liner like this...almost looks similar to the strange liner in my Cuban helmet:

Anyone seen anything like this one?

I have never seen an original WW2 Soviet helmet like that either.

(But the auction does feature a nice photo of a squad armed with SVT-40's )

      Cheers, Ade.

It seemed strange. Is that dealer known for fakes? I know the Soviets had a lot of variations, but the color of the leather seems wrong for the era.

I couldnt possibly comment on such a thing...

I did however see someone very similar who sold a very high proportion of overpriced items. Not "fake" but not worth what they sell them at.

Anyway, certainly I would avoid this particular item.

BTW Ade, that is a very interesting pic, I could spend a thread just talking about whats in it...

I talked to Bob Clawson about the helmet today, and he said he actually thought the stamps and other features looked good to him. I personally doubt the helmet is WWII issue but I do wonder if it wasn't a post-war reissue. I've seen a lot of strange liners in Soviet shells.

The canvas chinstrap alone would ring alarm bells for me. As pointed out that seller vastly overprices his items which on numerous occasions have been fake.

Also, look at the poor "fake" stamp on an other helmet he is selling.

Yeah and nearly all of it is in remarkable condition...

I have bought one thing from him. Mind you, it was a book not a bit of kit...

Have a look at his feedback though... quite impressive. Either a lot of people with no ideas what they are buying or its frigged, although when you consider the ebay fees on items that expensive, that would be an expensive marketing effort!

I thought his books were way overpriced as well. For example 1989 Uniform Regulations was almost $30 !!

The liner is fake, or at least the stamping OTK 1942 is 100% fake. The guys doing the faking have gotten stupid, but they are basing it on Western Collectors Demands for a date. The OTK is a inspectors mark, sort of like a waffenampt, and it can be anything but the following number is NOT A DATE. But they have combined them both to make a nice little OTK 1942 mark to make it easy to sell items to collectors. I have some original holsters with illegible original markings but the wise guys used this same OTK 1942 stamp on them to make them sell well to the west. I will snap a photo of that stamp later this week. Regardless anything rare or unusual is suspect from this dealer, and I know being a dealer myself, busting on another dealer is not well looked upon but he sells AS REAL, a lot of very fake items that Im quite sure he knows are not real...
