Is the first an SSch-36 ? Otherwise it should be dated before 1940.

        Nice line-up,Jim
I really like Soviet helmets and have a small collection too.
When placed next to each other for the untrained eye the all look the same,
but their fascination lies in the small details that makes each one of them so valuable to the collector. Here I think on the different stampings, chinstraps and liners.
        Regards
        Bernhard

Ssh-36 was made at the LMZ factory concurrent to the Ssh-39 until sometime 1941. 40 and 41 dated Ssh-36 helmets are not common, but they can be found. Typically, these are found in the later pea green, same as the 39s

            The SSch-36 is the only one without a date. Then from left to right after the SSch-36, 1940, 1941, 44, 45, 48, 48, 48, 48, 53, and 72.

            Best regards.

Is the star white on your second helmet ? I haven't seen that before.

                Very good eyes!

It is white. It appears to be period painted, so I never removed it. I'm hoping that it was put there by the original owner.

There are pictures of late war soldiers with political slogans painted in white on the front of their helmets. I guess this guy was just a little more subdued.

                Best regards.

                Jim

I once heard that these slogans were written after the war. I don't know if this is true.

                    White Stars

During my stint with Ostfront Militaria, we came into a ground recovered Ssh-36 shell that has a white painted outline star on the front in stead of the common red. Pretty unusual I think... I wish I had kept that one.
