    New Database for Soviet Awards

Egor (Egorka) has just put a new research tool online.

You can check the numbers of OPW2, ORS, Bravery and Combat Merit Medals he had in his database.

Just go to the website and select the database. From the pull down menu select which award and enter the number.
If it's in the database you get a hit with the name and award date. Further information maybe available and can be obtained by dropping Egor a mail.

    Great online tool.

      Hello!
Thank you for the kind words! Quality is my main attention point.

Abou the database. Here is an example of the database usage. One Dutch dealer is adding big lot of Red Stars on his site.
So, I went through and got 7 hits out of 73 numbers. Not bad at all, huh? I was surprised of hit rate myself!
Based on this I got myself 2 stars. It is much more efficient to buy with information, rather than blind.

Also, I will expand the data, so that award numbers could be added with indication of who owns them. This will help to find awards. Maybe reunite groups even...

Cheers and have a nice weekend! 😀

Good, I have about 40 numbered Soviet awards, plus about 10 numbered badges. Would love to see all of them listed somewhere.

I'll post this notice to my site when you get it finished.
        Thanks,

          Hello Eric,
The database is up and running already. It will, probably, never be finished. :-)
          It is a process!

But, I showed you below how I used the data in my database: from 73 got 7. Then selected 2 with the most interesting story: one for Berlin , the other one for a landing assault operation in the Pacific.
So, it works. Though, I don’t have data on the numbered badges.

            OPW1 numbers added yesterday.
There are now app. 166K searchable numbers. 144K are documented. Cheers!

Skip and all thanks for the update about this database.

                Question

                Gents --

I only have a side-interest in Soviet awards, but I would like to check the database for the few awards I own.

Can anyone help me what awards the codes "ORS", "OPW2", etc stand for?

                Thanks a lot!

                Markus.

Thanks Marcel. Haven't found any of mine yet though.

I am not sure how it works. I have an OGP1 that came through as "documented", but it seems I need to sign in to get to the information.

                          Hello Markus,
                          ORS = Order Red Star.
But no worries! I will update the entries with longer names. :-)
                          Probably tonight.

EDIT: Done. Long names are implemented.

                            Hello Thomas,

For now, I have only Red Star 400-600 numbers lower and higher. Both are war time. But no closer information so far.
Meaning, it requires archival search, which is on hold currently due to Corona troubles...

                              Hello Albert!
"Documented" means provenance is documented, i.e. I have document linking number to a name (handout protocol, order booklet, register card, any other official document).

If you find a documented number and would like to get the document (i.e. to find the name, so that the award can be further researched), then you can request it from either me or my colleague/friend.
You can address either SovietOrders.com or me. The contact information is on the database page.

In any case, if something is unclear, then I am glad to answer and assist!
